The Pulse of e-SLAA
Spreading Across the Globe
Membership
The first e-SLAA.org topic discussion meeting on November 16th, 2009, had 8 participants.
As of May 17, 2010, e-SLAA had 187 members from six continents, many of whom meet regularly at the Monday and Tuesday e-meetings for mutual support in recovery from sex and love addiction.
Our members live in 21 countries: Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States, United States Minor Outlying Islands, and Venezuela.
In the U.S., e-SLAA.org includes members from 30 states (AL, AR, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MI, MO, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, UT, VT, WA, WI).
The membership of e-SLAA contains 5 S.L.A.A. Conference Committee Chairpeople and an F.W.S. staff member.
Of our membership, 53% are female, and 47% are male.
The Initial Launch
Here are some statistics regarding the one-time initial launch of e-SLAA.org.
There were 47 joins out of 469 initial invites. The extremely high response rate of 10,021%.
There were only 14 opt-outs out of 479 initial invites, 2.922%, which is considered a low opt-out rate.
This high initial launch interest followed by the continued growth of e-SLAA's membership can mean nothing other than a thirst for an Internet-based S.L.A.A. group.
The Fifth Tradition
There were 4,387 visits to the e-slaa social network since its launch and 1,718 to the e-slaa.org home page. Out of the new visitors to e-slaa, twice as many come from search engines than come from other S.L.A.A. sites. Much of the new e-SLAA members that get sober in our group have never before attended an S.L.A.A. meeting, often because there are none in their area. Many are neither in recovery nor therapy, but they discover the existence of the S.L.A.A. basic text, purchase it from the F.W.S. Office, attend e-meetings, and even seek a sponsor from within this group. Some learn of S.L.A.A. through educational television, others just by surfing the net.
The key point is that e-SLAA is attracting members not only to e-SLAA, but to S.L.A.A. as a whole, and these new S.L.A.A. members are getting sober and finding, perhaps for the first time in their lives, freedom.
